CONVENT OF ALPENDURADA

Marco de Canavezes

The Convent of Alpendurada is a Benedictin convent from the 11th century, right before the Foundation of nationality, seated in the village of Alpendurada and Matos, in the county of Marco de Canavezes.

It´s one of the rare buildings in Portugal dated from that time which kept the original lines due to several restoration works.  Today is a Luxury Hotel, with the old cells, which were at that time the bedrooms of the Benedictin Friars, now transformed into guest rooms.

The restoration process of the exterior walls of the church, heavily damaged, involved the total removal of the existing coating, and the application of a hexagonal galvanized wire net (chicken wire) on the surfaces, fixed with galvanized nails, and the application of ADITEK P for the hardening of the surface, and subsequent coating with lime based mortar DIERA RV CAL BASE PRO to a thickness of maximum 40 mm, in two layers.
